My Review of Chamberlain's Leather Milk

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"Chamberlain’s story begins with Chamberlain’s Shipping Inc., a shipping and fulfillment company for quality leather items out of Fort Worth, Texas. Dennis and Patricia Chamberlain began shipping and fulfilling Saddleback Leather Company orders in 2007. As Saddleback grew, so did the shipping company. Because they were also handling quality control for Saddleback, they wanted every Saddleback piece to be lightly conditioned before being shipped out. The Chamberlain’s scoured the market looking for the perfect leather conditioner to use. They wanted something that was natural to ensure the health and safety of their employees as well as the environment. They also wanted something that wouldn’t change the leather. After searching high and low and coming up empty, they decided to develop their own leather care recipe, and Chamberlain’s Leather Milk was born!"

Review…

I was a sent an 8.0 fl oz bottle of the no. 1 Leather Care Liniment from Chamberlain's to review.

The price for this bottle is $18.95. Shipping is free.

Packaging & Presentation of Chamberlain's Leather Milk

This bottle arrived safely to my house.  It was packaged nicely inside of a plastic bag surrounded by the applicator, and there were no leaks, defects, nor issues during shipment.  The bottle has an aluminum screw-top lid, and it is made of brown plastic with white, brown, and black accents.  It stands 6.75" x 3.25" at its widest points.  I used scissors to open the bag.

The front of the bottle labels the product and brand.  Since this is a product that you can use in steps, this one is labeled no. 1.  It provides a brief description.  The back of the bottle is where all the information is.  The instructions for use are located here, as well as some warnings.  If you peel the label open, you will find instructions in both Spanish and French.  This product is environmentally safe, aesthetically pleasing, and made in the USA.

The cap is an aluminum screw-top, which opens to a safety seal. When you peel the seal off, you will find an easy drop method, so you won't pour out more than you need.

The applicator is 4.5" in diameter.  It's just okay.  You can see in the second picture that it's foam covered and stitched together.  It's not that great in quality, but it works for those dirty jobs.  If you were going to take care of something a little more high-end than boots, I'd use something a little softer and more easier to control.

My Personal Experience with Chamberlain's Leather Milk

I like to use leather cleaners and conditioners every once in a while, especially on my husband's work boots and the seats in his truck.  I bought him some Georgia boots about 7 years ago, and they are still going great!  With boots that expensive, you need to take care of them to ensure you get the most use out of them.  Since I just recently conditioned the seats in his truck, I decided to work on his boots this time.

So... here it is.  A gross boot.  Before anything, I wiped it down to kind of clean the extra gunk off of it before I applied the leather milk.

Next, you pour a little bit of the leather milk onto the applicator, and rub it all over the part of the boot that you would like to condition.  You can repeat this process if you want.  Then let it dry!  It has kind of a strawberry/cherry scent.  It's strange, but it smells pretty good.

After you let it dry a little, buff it out gently!  It's so easy, and look how shiny and conditioned the boot looks! (Yes, it's the same boot!).

Pros of Chamberlain's Leather Milk
  • High quality products.
  • Provides consistent results after each use.
  • Fast!  Change the look of something in under an hour.
  • Generally effortless-- apply and buff.  Easy.
  • I love the packaging.
  • Chamberlain's has a bunch of other products in this line for different issues.
Cons of Chamberlain's Leather Milk
  • The included applicator is not that great.
        Summary

This is easily one of the best conditioners I've used.  I like to do this probably once every other month to keep things fresh and new.  With this leather milk, you can easily change a 'work boot' into a 'going-out-boot' in under an hour.  This formula is gentle, yet effective.  It smells great (trust me, I've tried some that made me want to puke), and it stores nicely.  I'd definitely recommend trying this if you are looking for something that will actually work.
