My Review of Good for One Mediocre Shoulder Rub

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"Forget long-stem roses and fancy chocolates. Sometimes the most romantic thing an individual can do for a partner is something as unsexy as washing the dishes on a Wednesday night. Running the gambit from sweet and unique (“Five free spots at the top of the Netflix queue”) to realistically hilarious (“Redeem this card for thirty seconds of my undivided attention”), Good for One Mediocre Shoulder Rub is a charming, funny, and original collection of real-life love coupons for committed couples to say “I love you so much that I’ll walk the dog without complaining.” Every tear-out coupon is lovingly hand-illustrated, making each laugh-out-loud or touching gesture a unique gift in itself."

Review…

I was sent (2) coupon books from Ulysses Press to review.

One coupon book costs $7.95.  Shipping is free with Amazon Prime.

Packaging & Presentation of Good for One Mediocre Shoulder Rub

The coupon books arrived to me in perfect condition.  There were no rips, tears, or bends.  They are sturdy books with a soft cover.  Each book measures 5.25" x 2.75" x 0.25".  It has a nice, attractive color scheme, too!

The front of the book has the title Good for One Mediocre Shoulder Rub - Considerate Coupons for Couples.  It is illustrated by Meera Lee Patel.  The back of the book explains what you have to do:  personalize the coupons and cash 'em in.

Each book has a title on the binding, so you can pretty much store these any way you want.

My Personal Experience with Good for One Mediocre Shoulder Rub

Did you ever run into that problem where you have to get somebody a gift, but you had no idea what to get them?  That happens to me quite frequently.  To me, I find that sometimes it's even harder with a spouse.  You know them so well that it's hard to find the absolute perfect gift for them.  Especially for those 'honeymoon holidays' like Valentine's Day, Sweetest Day, and Anniversaries.

Early on in the relationship, it's easy. Flowers, candy, stuffed animals, etc.  Easy peasy.  But now?  8 years later?  What the heck do I get my husband?  What does he get for me?

Coupons.  Yes.  Perfect.  When I flipped through this book, I about cracked myself up to high heaven.  Each and every coupon was applicable to our relationship, and yes, they were hilarious, helpful, loving, and downright perfect.  Here are some of my favorite:

Redeem for:  One free chore completed.

Redeem for: One get-out-of-the-doghouse free pass.

Redeem for:  One technology-free old timey evening.

GENIUS.  Not only are these cards great, but they are each individually decorated.  The back of the coupon has stock decor, but it's still very colorful.

What I like best is that with two books, my husband and I share equal coupons to use for each other.  It's not one-sided.  He loved looking through that, and he had a pensive look on his face.  I think I'm in for some trouble!

Pros of Good for One Mediocre Shoulder Rub

  • Great for bonding.

Cons of Good for One Mediocre Shoulder Rub
    • I wish these would come in pairs for a somewhat reduced price.
          Summary

With Valentine's Day coming up (I know, can you believe that!?), this is the absolute, most perfect gift in the entire world. These are not geared towards men nor women.  They can be used between both sexes equally.  The books are high in quality, and they will last until they are gone.  I highly suggest getting two books, one for each of you.  It's a fun little game, and it's honestly something that you two can share and laugh about.  Forget the flowers-- give your special someone a coupon for '30 minutes of undivided attention'.  I love these things!!
